From the main story, you probably have a few Hongmoon Square Gem by now.
And you also know that the more side a Gem has, the better it is.
This guide is to explain how to get Gems and which Gems is the best.
Our aim is Hexagonal Gems.

Hongmoon Gems vs Non-Hongmoon Gems

Do not ever buy a Non-hongmoon gems, never. Unless you are filthy rich and don't know where to spent it.
Reason being they cannot be salvage for powders and cannot be transmute to upgrade it! Basically, it stays there forever!

Hongmoon gems on the other hand, can be salvage for powder and transmute to make them have more sides!
Salvaging:
1 Penta = 1 Powder
1 Hexa = 4 Powder
The cost to make and salvage Penta and Hexa is basically the same amount of Powder. But not Hepta and above.

Gem Powder

First, you have to find a way to get Gem Powder to get a Hexagonal Gem
Gem Powder can be obtain in F5, sometimes in F10, Dragon Express(gems) or events.
You can salvage a Pentagonal Hongmoon Gem to get 1 powder. Note that it must be Pentagonal.

Where to get Gem Powder
1) Market (F5)
2) Daily Cash Shop (f10)
3) Salvaging Penta and above gems
4) Events

Where to get Gems:
1) Dragon Express with Gem Powder
2) Events
3) Dragon Express with Solar Energy (Long term event, also not recommended if you need your badge)
4) Events
5) Events


Basically, its hard to obtain Gem and Gem Powder.
The best way is to buy from F5

Which Colour is the best?

Obsidian(Black)Black gem is the special gem. It can not be bought with gem powder. It gives some DPS as well because of AP and Elemental Damage.
It can only be found in Irontech Forge, which drop Transcendence Disk to be exchange in Celestial Basin.
It can also be found in Event like Trove.

Diamond(White)
Diamond Gives the most AP with the same amount of Gem Powder. Thus, giving you the most Damage.

Aquamarine(Violet)Gives the most AP other than diamond, and also heals and focus recovery which helps a lot.

Amethyst(Purple)
Give you heals

All Others
Its argueable that Ruby give you more DPS too but personally the DPS is not really a lot...
There is a new PVP gem that you can check out also to see, Emerald (Lime Green). Look good to me actually, but its new so I don't wanna give wrong info on it for now.
The rest, they are pretty much useless or the same...
